Stop ZIP Code-Based Auto Insurance

California Insurance Commissioner John Garamendi has announced that he will put an end to decades of unfair auto insurance rates by following Proposition 103 and requiring that insurance companies' rates are based primarily on how a person drives, rather than where they live.

Tell Commissioner Garamendi that you support his decision to enact fair insurance rules.

Subject: Stop ZIP Code-Based Auto Insurance
Dear Insurance Commissioner Garamendi::

I strongly support your plan to end the unfair system of ZIP Code-based auto insurance rates. Auto insurance should be based on how well you drive, not where you live. The current rules allow companies to skew premiums so good drivers in certain communities pay dramatically higher rates than those in other communities, sometimes just one ZIP Code away.

Californians demanded this common sense reform more than 17 years ago when we enacted Proposition 103. While it is outrageous that it has taken this long to enact, I am pleased that you will finally put these rules in place.

Sincerely,
